What a great idea. In Denver, Colorado, there's a couple who have started a restaurant (about 2 years ago) called SAME Cafe. The concept is that you pay what you want for the food you eat which includes organic pizzas and salads. Their hope is that it would take the place of soup kitchens and allow those who could afford to pay for their food dine with those who are unable to pay. If you can't pay for your dinner they just request that you work an hour washing dishes, but even that isn't required. Most people pay for their food and the Cafe takes donations even from those who don't eat there (you can donate on their website. Surely it has to be helping to remove the stigma surrounding going to a soup kitchen to get food and provide those unable to pay for their food some sort of dignity to be able to eat at a restaurant with everyone else.
