Two Step Back

I hate when I get caught up in memories. I hate when they flood my mind. It's like one step forward and two steps back. Today, I'm two steps back...

Sunday, June 29, 2008

It just never stops...

...my mind that is. So much constantly going on... Here are thoughts that are typically in constant rotation in my mind:

1. My current job. How can I improve the process on my project, better partnership with other areas, better the product, become more relevant to consumers, etc., etc., etc.

2. My future, careerwise. What can I do to improve skills? What skills do I still need to learn? Where do I want my career to go in the next year or two, in the next 5 years, in the next 10 years, etc., etc., etc.

3. Running. How do I make myself a better runner. What can I do to cut time, run longer, build strength, build endurance, etc. Is running something I really want to keep pursuing? Is my body really cut out to withstand the constant pounding on my knees, legs, and ankles? Should I take up a sport that's not as strenuous and demanding on my joints? (Do I sound old?)

4. Location, Ohio. I miss my family. I miss my friends. I miss Ohio. I miss all that's familiar.

5. Location, Florida. I love the life that God's given me here. I love my friends and I love the incredible experiences I've had here. What fantastic memories I've already created and yet to create.

6. Photography. I'm so excited to be doing something I love again. I can't wait to get my camera in my hands and keep creating.

7. Relationships, past and future. I don't even know where to start thinking about this. It's so weird how past relationships continue to affect me to do this day. I suppose that's true about any past experience--it molds you into who you are today. It's strange because I hear of so many of my close friends getting engaged and married and yet, I feel so young. Certainly, there are days when I think "Gosh, why can't I just meet the man of my dream, fall in love, and get married tomorrow?" But then I realize that I'm a mere 23 years old. I don't know what I want to do with the rest of my life let alone who I want to be with the rest of my life. The responsibility of taking care of myself seems overwhelming some days--how the heck am I supposed to take care of a husband and possibly kids someday (that's a whooooole different story. The idea of kids scares the CRAP out of me. Never been one of those girls who longs for children and dreams of being a mom. I want a family of my own someday, but it does certainly scare me). Anyhow, I think I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to "settle down" (sidenote, I hate that term...I want my life to constantly be an adventure regardless of marital status--I'll never be ready to settle down--better just find a guy who can keep up!! :) ). I digress--I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to make room in my life for somebody, but just not sure if I'm there yet. Lots of evaluating to do. So as you can see, this one takes up a LOT of my time...and is likely at the center of a ot of my prayers.

8. Music. As the Jonas brothers would say "it's in my soul." (Don't judge me for quoting them...thanks). I wish I could communicate with people through songs. I wish I could just use lyrics and music to express the way I feel. Or maybe I should make this more general--art. I love the way art express emotions. Give me a day full of music and photography and you've just made me the happiest girl on earth. The emotion created between the two...love it.

9. Social Injustice. I know, heavy topic--likely one that will garner it's on post in upcoming days. But it's on my mind a lot. Why is there poverty? Why is there crime? Why is there abuse? Why are there homeless? Why are there orphans? How do we break the cycle? How do we help? What would Jesus do? What is our responsibilities as Christ followers? Where do you even begin to start? How do you make it seem less overwhelming so you can find a place to start? What makes me any more deserving of a nice home, a nice car, etc. than anyone else? Can we really blame this on a "luck of the draw"? Because I was born into a certain social class then I don't have to worry about others?--That's one question I know the answer to--absolutely not! Anyhow. You can see this weighs heavy on both my heart and mind...constantly.

10. Church, religion, theology. Am I where God wants me to be? Am I doing what God wants me to do? Am I honoring him in all I do? Waht can I do to further Christ's kingdom? How can I become more involved in the church with my already crazy schedule? Am I at the right church? Where are can my spiritual gifts best be utilized? Heck. What are my spiritual gifts? Why do we fight about religion? Why are countries and cultures torn apart over it? Is our world in a moral decline or becoming more aware of Christ's call and Christ's desire for us?

11. Politics. I hate them. I hate what they do to a nation. I hate how they pull us apart. I hate how they pit people against each other. I hate the put labels on things. I hate it all. Can't we just make wise decisions. Can't we just love people? Ugh...I just hate politics. I have no desire to vote, but I know I need to. But I hate it all...hate it.

12. Traveling/Adventure. I wish I could spend my life traveling and discovering the world. I feel like God's created the Earth for us to enjoy and I want to see every inch of his creation. I want to capture the memories with my camera...I want to see it all....someday, someday.

Okay, there's so much more, but as you can see, my mind never ever ever stops. Ridiculousness. But right now what's on my mind? OHIO...3 days until I peace out!

Afternoon at the pool...

Rachel and I spent the afternoon at the pool. It was mostly uneventful. That is, until the birds got hungry. On a table across the pool from us some people had left an open bag of doritos. They then got in the pool and were swimming. Shortly thereafter, a swarm of birds discovered the open dorito bag and were all over free food. There were birds swimming all around the pool with bright orange chips in their beaks. Rachel and I were enjoying the scene...and also hoping that the people wouldn't go back and eat their doritos...

Don't look to the right...

Last night Rachel, Fawn and I went out for dinner. On our way home (I was driving), we were sitting at a stop light when the following occured:

Rachel: Wow, there are some really sketchy guys in that car.
Fawn and I: What car? Where?
Rachel: Don't look to the right. They're in that car.
Me: *Looks to the right*
Rachel: I SAID DON'T LOOK TO THE RIGHT!!!!!

We all start busting up laughing. Apparently I don't take directions very well.

Midwest Way of Ease...

One week. I've been looking forward to this trip for quite some time. Life here in Florida is really really good right now, but there's no denying the fact that my heart is still in Ohio, particularly Columbus. I have just 5 days and already it seems like not enough...so much to do, so much to see, so many people to see!!!

Anyhow, Enjoy these O.A.R. lyrics. I love the Midwest way of ease and the rhythm that surrounds...

There's a road outside Columbus, Ohio.
Feels like I drove along for years.
this Midwest way of ease it surrounds us.
I can't deny the rhythm here.
And as I pull away from Riverside beside me,
That High Street never looked so good.

Surprise, Surprise, I traveled here.
Four hundred miles from where I'm known.
My friends are here.
A couple years I've spent, I found I have a second home.

This would happen to me...

Where to start, where to start...I'll start at the very beginning. A very good place to start (Cue Sound of Music).

This morning I took my car to the shop to get an oil change. A mere $30 task. No big deal. I get a call halfway through the day...my Serpentine (?) Belt needs replaced. How much will that cost? $163. Perfect. Also, I need to start thinking about having my timing belt replaced. How much will that cost? $650. Fantastic. I tell them to go ahead and replace the Serpentine Belt (after consultion with my Dad). My $30 bill ended up being $176 (I begged for discounts and complained about not being able to eat the rest of the week if they didn't give me discounts...Okay, so maybe I batted my eyelashed a time or two as well. So sue me.).

So now, I have my lovely car back in my possession and I head happily off to Occoee to go to the Chiropractor. Chiropractor goes well and I head back towards Disney to meet a friend and let her into the park. On I-4 I hear my car start dinging (similar to the noise that cars make when you leave your headlights on after you turn off the car). I look down at my dashboard and see my water temperature gauge all the way to the "H". First thought: "Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, oh crap." I call my dad as I pull my car off the side of the road. My dad explains that all I need to do is put water in the coolant thing (that's the technical term for you...thing). So I call my friend Ryan and beg for him to come save me. Scott and Ryan come to the rescue with a couple of gallons of water...but only after the Road Rangers have pulled over to help (Thank you Lord for the Road Rangers. No Seriously. THANK YOU LORD!!!). The Road Ranger man looks under the hood of my car and dicovers that my radiator cap was loose, hence the reason that the fluid was low. And, he finds that my battery has started to corode. Lovely. He then tells me that I should be a little bit skeptical of the work that was done on my car today. Awesome.

So at this point I'm a little bit angry at the car place. This would be the 3rd time that I've taken my car in to get fixed and had something go wrong AFTER they "fixed" it. It would be safe to say that I'm going to have words tomorrow with the car place.

On a bright note. I have fantastic friends. Scott and Ryan rock. I shall repay them tomorrow night with a lovely Peanut Butter pie.

I was finally able to head on to Disney and got to see Austina for the first time in nearly a year and a half!!! So excited. I miss her a lot!

All in all, I have to sit back and laugh a bit at today. Car problems and all, I'm still blessed :)

Reflection: What does it mean to be Blessed?

I've been thinking about this. When we say that we are blessed, what are we really saying? How do we really measure being blessed? I think that so often we measure being blessed by how much our family loves us, how many friends we have, the job we have, the money we make, the house we live in, the activities we participate in, etc., etc., etc.... But as I've been thinking about it, I've been convicted of how wrong that measurement is. If all of that was taken away tomorrow--if I had no frinds, no job, no family, no money, no house, etc--would I still be blessed? Of course. I think we need to find comfort in knowing that true blessing is being loved unconditionally by our Lord and Savior. True blessing is knowing that while we are completely undeserving of anything Jesus has to give, He still offers in abundance his love, mercy, grace, forgiveness. I believe that is true blessing. All of these other worldly things--job, money, house, even our friends and family--are additional blessings that we should give thanks for daily.

Just my thoughts for now...possibly more to come as I continue to reflect on this topic...

OOMPA!

I love the Greek. Even more so after patronizing Taverna Opa tonight at Pointe Orlando. This is my restaurant review. Get ready.

I had been hanging out with Rachel all day and she invited me to go along with her tonight to celebrate one of her friend's birthday at a Greek restaurant. I love Greek food so I was all in. Before we headed out, we decided to look up the restaurant to see if we could get an idea about how much it would cost. We checked out some reviews while we were at it and saw that we should expect belly dancers, napkin throwing, table dancing and a general festive environment. Intriguing. I was pumped.

We got there and the place was packed! The birthday girl, Anna, had called ahead to put our names on the "preferred seating" list (what the heck does that even mean?!?), but I don't think it really made too much of a difference. We waited for a good hour before they finally seated. Unfortunately, the service was anything but speedy. On the bright side, the food was great and not too bad priced. I shared some sort of meatball appetizer with Rachel and we both ordered the Greek Salad which oddly enough didn't come with any lettuce, just a bunch of different veggies. They also served fresh, warm pita bread and chick peas with oil and garlic that you mash up yourself to make hummus. It was very delicious.

Now on to the entertainment....Oh dear me, the entertainment. When we got there we noticed that the DJ was spinning some sort of Greek Techno music. So strange. But, I'm not gonna lie, it got me dancing. I mean, seriously. How can you not dance when you hear Greek Techno music?!? That's what I thought. We went inside and found napkins thrown alllll over the place. When the waiter came to give us appetizer plates he threw a bunch of napkins at us (and of course we all cheered). The table next to us was already well on their way to table dancing. I think they had about 5 people up on their table dancing away. For a while we just watched in awe as we were sure that one of the guys was going to pop a hip with his dance moves. Across the way, an elderly lady (definitely at least 80) was doing quite a bit of dancing of her own (all while wearing a blue sparkly top with American flags on it. God Bless the USA)! Finally, one of the guys in our group, decided to be bold and lept onto the table and began dancing. It wasn't long before all 9 of us were on our table dancing. And yes, it took strategy to fit all 9 of us on the table. Seriously though...soooooo much fun. Soon, our food came and we were forced to seize dancing for the time being. We enjoyed our meal and afterwards cleared the table to resume our mad dance skills. The large party of over 20 people next to us had just left and the waiters had cleared the table. One of the other guys in our group took this chance to dance up and down the entire length of the table. Entertaining doesn't even begin to describe it. Soon 2 ladies joined him and he did a swift sidestep to escape their dancing.

The evening was ridiculously fun and Taverna Opa gets 2 thumbs up from me. Definitely not a restaurant to go to if you want to sit and chat or catch up with someone. It's more like a Greek Night Club that serves really good food. It's a great hang out place. Rachel even told me that she saw it received a 2007 Foodie Award, so others certainly agree that it's good.

So next time you're in Orlando, check it out. But make sure you've got your dancin' shoes on.

Sweeeet Summertime

Everything is sweet these days. The rain and SUMMERTIME!! Even with the humidity and all the millions of extra people, I still love summertime. It has an ease to it. Kind of indescribable.

Tonight I took one of my friends and her cousin to Magic Kingdom. Her cousin hadn't been to Disney since she was 5. She's now 22. CRAZY! I suppose I take for granted sometimes the fact that I can go whenever I want. I love seeing people get so excited. She was THRILLED beyond belief. If you would have told me she was 7, I would have believed you. She got so excited just to walk through Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. I really love it. It was fun for me too, to go over to MK. I haven't been there in a long while. I think since the end of May, so almost a month. Just walking in and standing on Main Street is such a reminder why I love this place. I'm really excited to go tomorrow with my friend Rachel and spend the day at Disney. It'll be fun, for sure.

Life is busy and crazy and I love it. Every second of it :)

Sweet summer rain

I like thunderstorms. So I suppose it's appropriate that I live in the lightening capital (not in any way saying that I want to get struck by lightening or enjoy lightening), but I do enjoy a good rumble of thunder. I love the rain coming down in the evening. I love the smell. And I love how (most of the time) it cools off the air after the rain. I suppose living in Florida isn't so bad, eh? :)

Looking forward to the weekend!! Sushi tomorrow with Justin for lunch, Rachel's spending the night tomorrow night, running/swimming with Rachel on Saturday morning and then Crystal Palace breakfast and playing in the parks all day Saturday!!

Austina arrives into town on Monday and is staying with me through Saturday. I haven't seen her in well over a year and a half so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing her next week. And then...I'll be headed to O-HI-O. Love it.

Life is good :)

Kristi Kookies

Oh yes. Today was glorious. Why? Because....KRISTI KOOKIES. After craving Kristi Kookies allll day at work, we decided it was necessary for some to be made. Hilary and I picked up ingredients after I got off work and headed over to Ryan and Scott's apartment. Best part? Ryan basically made them all while Hilary, Scott, and I sat there and watched....and ate. Yummm. And believe it or not, Kristi Kookies have no flour in them. I know. We were all amazed. We told Ryan it wouldn't work. But it did. And they are good. sooooo good.

After that we hung out while everyone pretty much laughed at me...that's right, not with me, at me. It's okay, I'm tough. I can handle it :)

And if you're wondering what kind of pizza I ate tonight....cheese. Oh, you meant what brand? Right. Papa John's. Hahaha. At least I find this last statement funny.

What a random post. I need sleep. Peace out.

Music Update ala Kristi

So I may be on a concert hiatus for the moment, but that doesn't mean I haven't found some more music that I'm totally digging. I've gotten some good recommendations, have checked them out, and approve. So, here are the artists that have been playing on my iPod and in my car in recent days. (Some may be repeats from previous posts...sometimes I get addicted to certain cds).

1. Augustana (So I might have listened to this cd so much that it's now skipping...bummer).
2. Between the Trees (since my Augustana cd is skipping in my car, I've been listening to the Between the Trees cd and let me just say that I am 100% digging it.)
3. Rookie of the Year (Just love them)
4. Greg Laswell (Heard him open for Ingrid Michaelson as mentioned in a previous post. Downloaded his EP--haven't gotten his full cd yet--but I'm 100% loving the EP)
5. Vampire Weekend (Have had 3 people recommend them. So I bought the cd. Loooove it. Not what I expected at all. Kinda bummed I missed the concert.)
6. Death Cab for Cutie (Haven't been a Death Cab fan previously, but heard rave reviews for the new cd. Downloaded it. Love it.)
7. Jason Mraz (New cd is IN.CRED.I.BLE. Seriously. One of the most clever musicians out there...looooove his lyrics).

So those are the new ones as of now. I've heard lots of good things about The New Pornographers and Neko Case but haven't had the time to download and listen yet. They're next on my music to check out. I was also given a recommendation that The Shins new album is a must have. Soooo I'll have to buy that one too.

Unrelated sidenotes:
-Let's hear it for Tiger Woods! Hip hip hooray. Ryan and I (well mostly Ryan) were following the playoff today at work and gave a fist pump in the air when we heard he won. Go Tiger.

-16 days until VA-CA-TION!!! Holla.

-I start photography class on Thursday. So incredibly, ridiculously, amazingly, wonderfully, fabulously excited!!! (I'm sure you get my point!) The class is 8 weeks long and then I'll get to take the next one. There are a bunch of classes and I absolutely cannot wait.

-Rode Toy Story Mania! this weekendand it was Uh-mazing!!! Like seriously, I didn't believe it could be as good as everyone was saying, but it was awesome. We got fastpasses in the morning before we went to Gatorland (which is another post for another time) and then we went back after Gatorland to use them and the standby line was 110 minutes!!! Holy. Cow. That's craziness. The attraction opens in California tomorrow.

-I'm currently looking for a bike. I want to start training for sprint Triathlons. Sooo if you have any input on a good bike, I'd welcome your input. I know that road bikes are best for triathlons, but I've never had a road bike (I've always had a mountain bike), so I'm kind of nervous about switching over. Target has a hybrid bike that I'm kind of liking. It's only a little over $200 so I'm thinking that might be a good deal.

-Okay, I'm sure there's more because I haven't done a very good update in a while, but that's all I can think of right now. Peace out.

Concert Review--Ingrid Michaelson

Wednesday night Rebekah and I went to the Ingrid Michaelson concert at The Social (as we battled torrential downpours...all for the sake of music). It seems as thought each concert I goes to gets better and better. I was a bit skeptical that Ingrid would be the type that would sit on her stool with her guitar and just sing all of her songs. Wrong. She was hilarious! And incredibly talented. She played the piano, guitar, and banjo. She was telling jokes and interacting with the crowd. She seemed so laid back. She played some new songs that she's written and they are even better than her first album. I'm looking forward to her new album coming out.

The opener, Greg Laswell, was also very talented. I enjoyed his piano skills as well. Annnnd, he did a great cover. Of...wait for it. "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" Awesome. Seriously. Good stuff. I was talking to one of Rebekah's friends that was with us and she said she discovered Greg on NPR. Rebekah and I were both pretty amazed by this. I checked out NPR's website (National Public Radio, incase you didn't get that) and they seriously have a great music site. They do radio segments on undiscovered artists and music worth considering. Loooove it. So many new artists and music for me to check out! Ahhh how I love music.

Unfortunately, it appears as though my concert-going schedule won't be so packed in the next few weeks. I was supposed to volunteer as part of the Mocha Club at Ginny Owens concert in Lakeland next week, but Mocha Club isn't going to be there anymore (although the concert is still on). I don't think I'll make the trek out to Lakeland for the concert now. And, the 2 concerts I really wanted to go to in July are both while I have visitors in town, so I likely won't be going to those either. But, August will be here before I know it and that means John Mayer and OneRepublic!!

Anyhow, check out Ingrid and Greg. They're good. Oh, and apparently some group called Black Dice did a remix of Ingrid's song--the sweater one. She was trying to tell us how it went (including rapping). It was funny. I'll probably check out the remix.

Happy weekend! :)

God wants me to vote conservative?!?

I was at the bookstore on Sunday. I was looking for a specific book, but decided to browse a bit while I was there. I came across a book with this title "How Would God Vote? Why the Bible Commands You to be a Conservative."

Now, I haven't read this book, but the title seems somewhat alarming to me. I've never read my Bible from front cover to back cover (gasp), but last time I checked, no where in my Bible does it "command" me to be a conservative. Rather, in my Bible, it teaches how to live like Christ--how to love, how to forgive, how to care, etc. I think it's unfortunate that we've had to divide ourselves into political parties and then bicker over which party is more "Christian." It worries me because I honestly don't believe that Christ would label and divide in such a way.

The review on Amazon included this:

Klinghoffer considers the ethical and moral heart of contemporary political debates—questions like immigration, gay marriage, abortion, care for the poor, war and peace, censorship, privacy, the place of religion in schools and the community, and much more.

This bothers me even more. I remember having a conversation with my ex-boyfriend, Dan, about a year and a half ago on this topic. We were talking about politics and world issues and he made a very valid point that's stuck with me (obviously). While, as a Christian, I may have certain beliefs and moral views on what is right concerning topics such as gay marriage, abortion, religion in schools, etc., not everyone in the United States is a Christian. I can't force my moral and religious views on the person next to me (just like I can't force them to be a Christian). It's a choice they have to make for themselves. Rather, I should select political officials according to their policies--I should vote according to what policies are going to help our country in economics, international relations, and the like. Sure, it'd be nice to have a president who also believes in the same moral and religious views that I do, but ultimately I need that president to make choices that allow me to have the freedom to make the moral choices that I believe in.

Just in general, the title of this book bothers me. The funny thing is, I would consider myself a conservative (okay, so really I claim moderate, but I generally lean towards a conservative view point), but I just feel like this book is telling anyone who votes as a liberal is not a Christian. I feel like this book--in just it's title alone--is telling people that Christians must fit an exact mold, and that it's good to put labels things.

Heck, it may be a good book. But I obviously have issues with the title. And likely will not be reading the book (unless out of curiousity!).

Concert Review--Between the Trees

A little late coming, but here it is.

Friday Rebekah and I went to the Between the Trees concert at House of Blues (HOB). This time, I liked the venue a bit better. We decided to take advantage of the skip the line option again by eating dinner at HOB. It's good. Slightly overpriced, but good.

We then got in line. And waited...with a bunch of teeny boppers. Hahaha. Seriously. Between the Trees has a pretty young following, so we were in the minority with our 21 and over wristbands. When we got into the venue, we found the perfect location. 2 bar stools right behind the main floor. They were really really good seats. All the teeny boppers crowded the main floor area. There were 3 opening acts. "Dang, We're on Fire" was the first act. I didn't enjoy them. At all. I felt like the guy couldn't sing at all. He was just talking/screaming into the mic. But I do have to say they have a pretty sweet name. I wanted to like them so I could tell people "Hey, have you heard of this sweet band? Yeah, they're name is 'Dang, We're on Fire'." Just sounds cool.

Anyhow, I didn't think I'd like the second opener, but I actually really enjoyed them. Cori Yarckin (sp?) was really good. They have a female lead singer (which isn't all that common, but interesting, for sure). She was really entertaining and had a really great voice. The last opener was "Rookie of the Year" and they were really great. Rebekah bought the cd and I've listened to it today and like them even more since the show. They have a cool punk, rock, singer/songwriter sound. Intriguing. Their song "Liars and Battlelines" is good. So check them out. I said so.

Between the Trees finally came on and I have to say, they put on a phenomenal show. They did this whole acoustic set in the middle of their show and I loved, loved, loooooved it!!! They also covered a Journey song ("Don't Stop Believin") which I was EXTREMELY impressed with!!! They did GREAT. The guitar rift was incredible. The annoying part of the show: the teenyboppers seriously started moshing and crowd surfing. Seriously? Seriously. Definitely not that type of music. Anyway, I would go see Between the Trees again. I liked them!!!

Annnnd, just found out that Cartel will be here in July!! OH. MY. GOSH! But I can't go...major bummer.

Wednesday night I'm heading to the Ingrid Michaelson concert. Way stoked. I've really been enjoying "The Hat" lately.

Almost a year...

Almost a year. It's hard to believe. Almost a year ago my heart was broken. I thought about that a lot today. So much has happened in this past year (how fast the year has gone!). It's crazy how fast you grow to care about someone and then how quickly it's all over. I remember the pain I felt in the days, weeks, and months after. At times it felt unfair...I wasn't done caring, I wasn't done getting to know, I wasn't done sharing, I wasn't done spending time, I just wasn't done. But that's what a relationship is all about...it's about 2 people being in it together. All I could do then and all I can do now and in the future is be 100% me and put in 100%. And when the time is right, someone else will come to accept and even love me...100% of me--my ups, my downs, my quirks, my insecurities, my humor, my sadness, my family, my friends, and everything in between.

I'm sure so many people would tell me that I should have moved on long ago. But I'm certain that healing takes time (especially when you have a set back over New Years...hahaha...oh my...that's when you learn to roll with it :) ). I've taken the pain, the hurt, and the confusion to God so many times. I've cried more tears than I can count. I've been angry and not even known why. I've felt lonely and sick. And at times I've felt like God was just leaving me hanging. But I've had incredible friends who have let me cry and listen to me over and over again. They've reminded me countless times that I'm God's Beloved and given me great words of encouragement.

At times I still don't understand it all--and I don't think I ever will understand it all. But as I've spent some time reflecting on it, I look where God's brought me and what I've learned about myself. I have been blessed in so many ways. There will always be struggles and rough patches that I'll be dealt, but it's what keeps the journey exciting. I see the path that my life has taken in just a year and I find great joy and hope in seeing what the next year holds.

I have many great memories from that relationship, and I will always care about him. I shared many laughs and many great moments with him--I can't count the number of times I felt butterflies in my stomach around him and broke into a smile at the thought of seeing him. But I can't give to someone who isn't open to receiving. If it's not God's will, then I have to be more than okay with it. And when times get hard, I'll just keep giving it to God. I'm so thankful that my Heavenly Father is the Great Healer.

On a complete sidenote:
I came home tonight and as I parked my car I saw Magic Kingdom fireworks going off in the distance. I turned up my radio (Augustana was on...of course) and just sat there watching the fireworks. I love moments like those. I wish I could capture them in a bottle to be opened whenever I needed them.

Map My Run

Adam shared a cool site with me today. www.mapmyrun.com. You can enter your running route and it'll tell you how far you've run. Or you can check out routes other people have entered and see routes in the area. Pretty cool. Now I just need to start running a lot again. Florida summers really put a damper on the whole running thing.

PS--I posted previously about how a particular verse in Philipians always shows up when I'm a little overwhelmed or stressed or worried. It happened again last night at church!! I don't know why I'm surprised. God always seems to remind me of his presence when I need to be trusting him most!

Concert Review--OneRepublic w/ Dave Barnes

Tonight was the much anticipated OneRepublic w/ Dave Barnes concert. I met up with Rachel, Rebekah and Crystal at House of Blues for dinner so we could skip to the front of the line (it really is a pretty good deal...eat dinner there first and you get to skip the line. I like it!). After dinner we got in line and once inside the concert hall found a good location towards the back (we weren't really in the mood to fight off teeny boppers down in front so we hung out in the middle/back). My first reaction to this concert is that I don't really like the venue. There are some rather large pillars around the room that are annoying. And in all honesty, I don't think the acoustics are all that great there either. I'm probably just partial to The Social (mostly because it's a small, cheap venue and you can practically touch the artists performing on stage). I really just like the intimate feeling of The Social over the huge (I use this word loosely in this instance) venue of HOB.

Anyway, there were 2 other openers besides Dave Barnes. Ron somebody-or-other (obviously I wasn't all that impressed) and Dave Reeves. Dave Reeves was actually pretty good and I'll probably end up purchasing a song or two..maybe. When Dave Barnes came on I was so incredibly stoked. But unfortunately most of the people at the concert were there for OneRepublic and not Dave so they talked through most of Dave's set and we couldn't hear what he was singing or saying which is truly unfortunate because Dave is flat out hilarious. He only sang about 5 songs and none of them were really my favorites. I was kind of disappointed. :(

I was skeptical about OneRepublic's performance but they were really, really, really good!! The lead singer tore his ACL a while back so he had to sit the entire time (he plays piano too so really he sits a lot anyway), but suprisingly he was still extremely entertaining from his keester (as he referred to it). They literally played every song from their album EXCEPT the one I wanted them to! I really really really wanted to hear "Prodigal" and they didn't play it :( But the rest of their show was soooo goood. They are really great performers and the lead singer has one heck of a voice on him. I'd definitely go see them again...and I just might! They announced that they'll be back end of August with....JOHN MAYER!! (Alright, I know some people don't particulary enjoy John Mayer, but I like him--probably because of the high school memories it brings back--and I LOVE his new single! So good!). So in any case, tonight was pretty fun!

Oh, and we saw Between the Trees at the concert tonight. Rebekah and I are going to see them on Friday night and they were at tonight's show. Rachel wouldn't let me talk to them though. Hahaha. It was funny. Omigosh. I almost forgot the best part of the night. There was a crazy drunk (well, we hope he was drunk or else there's just no way to explain how ridiculous he was) in front of us the whole night. Now let's be honest, OneRepublic isn't really headbanging, jump-up-and-down type music. But this man was definitely doing both. And. He was singing. Off key. Off beat. He ran into so many people. And we were all dying laughing at him. He was completely oblivious. I laughed so hard I almost cried.

Anyhow...great night! By the way (or B-T-Dub as was coined tonight), the new Jason Mraz cd is out. Haven't listened yet, but I will soon, I'm sure. And I have no doubt I'll love it. He has a duet with Colbie Caliat that should be good. If he is ever in town (or near here) I would totally go see him. Love, love, LOOOOOVE Jason Mraz.

Alright...I'm out.

And one more thing...

I know. Two posts in one day. Don't fall off your chairs.

I've posted about it before, but I just wanted to say again that the Stuff Christians Like blog is simply the most hilarious and witty blog I've ever read. Seriously, go check it out if you haven't yet. This guy is good. If only I were half as witty as he.

Music, makes the people, come together!

I love music far too much. Have I mentioned that a time or two before? I got a copy of the Augustana cd today from Rebekah today at church. I haven't stopped listening to it all day. I loooove it. My favorite songs are "Hey Now" and "Fire" and "Sweet and Low." What a fantastic band. Their live performance was incredible and their cd is nothing short of amazing.

Tonight I stopped at House of Blues to pick up OneRepublic tickets for tomorrow night. I'm soooo excited!! And I also purchased tickets for the Between the Trees concert on Friday night. Rebekah wanted to go and wasn't sure if she had anyone to go with and since she went with me to the Indelible Grace concert a while ago, I figured I owed her. Plus, I've been told by more than a few people that Between the Trees puts on a fantastic show, so I'm pretty excited.

So this week (like all the rest) will be pretty busy. OneRepublic/Dave Barnes tomorrow night, The Drive on Tuesday night, Chiropractor on Wednesday night, Small Group on Thursday night, and Between the Trees on Friday night.

Alright, time to get to bed. Early morning tomorrow!!

Happy June :)

PS--I know all of you enjoy my Madonna reference in my blog title. Who doesn't enjoy a bit of Madonna every once in a while. I know I do. But then again, I'm just a "material girl living in a material world". Haha.
